If you or a loved one suffer from Snoring or Sleep Apnea, we understand that you may have already tried several approaches to reclaiming restful, refreshing sleep with at best, only moderate success.
Perhaps you’ve tried a CPAP machine and found you couldn't tolerate it. Perhaps you’ve had surgery that worked for awhile but eventually your snoring or sleep apnea returned. Sleep deprivation is not a healthy lifestyle and with the potential side effects, it is a high priority for us to get your treatment underway as quickly as possible.
Here is some information that may help . . .
Q. What can I expect when I come in for a consultation?
A. We have a few forms that, when completed, will provide us with valuable information to help determine the best course of treatment for you. For easier access, we have made these forms available for you online. During your consultation, we will take time to understand not only the information on those forms, but also your personal experience of your sleep disruption so we can better provide you with viable treatment options.
Q. What happens after the consultation?
A. We decide together on the treatment plan for you. We consider oral appliance options from a number of styles and select the one that best fits your needs. Then we take impressions and have an appliance customized specifically for you. Once the appliance is created, we make any adjustments necessary to ensure optimum comfort and effectiveness for you.
Q. How many visits are involved with the appliance?
A. After the initial consultation, there may be 2 to 4 appointments within the first four months. Thereafter, we will see you annually or semi-annually to ensure the effectiveness of the appliance.
Q. How long does it take to adapt to the appliance? Will it hurt my teeth?
A. Virtually all patients will adapt to the appliance within 2-7 days. It may take a few days to adjust to having a device in your mouth during sleep. The appliance will not harm your teeth. If you experience discomfort that continues after initial use, Dr. Sherman can easily adjust it for your comfort.
